Von Zeit zu Zeit und viel zu selten stößt man in den IMDB-Kommentaren auf interessante Stimmen; Leute, die schreiben können und Witz besitzen und filmhistorisch beschlagen sind. Also KommentatorInnen, die man einfach gerne liest. Heute habe ich mal wieder jemanden entdeckt, Benutzernahme cooper1963 (1963 ist das Geburtsjahr, das geht aus einigen Texten hervor). Cooper1963 schreibt kurze Sätze, beobachtet genau und ist oft recht geistreich. Hier, zum Beispiel, über den mir unbekannten Film Leave Her to Heaven von John M. Stahl dies:

We get hints of incest along the way. Abortion. And even murder. Rain arrives to wash away any bad karma or spiritual residue that had been built up around the immaculate homes and set pieces depicted in the film. It seems to me that every stick of furniture and prop was pulled from a Spiegal Catalog. Clean as a whistle. Every locale in the movie is named or located by a body of water: Warm Springs, Spring Lake, Bar Harbor, for example.

Oder über Jane Fonda und Barbarella:

Jane Fonda (I bet) loves to watch this one late at night. Alone. A guilty pleasure? Perhaps. But just a hunch on my part. No longer constrained by the social concerns and politics of the sixties, she gazes at her past-self flickering away in the story's future, 40,000A.D., a woman of youth and beauty, and says simply: " God, you WERE a looker once." Perhaps I'm wrong about this scenario. I hedge. But maybe not. Maybe I'm soaring through velvet space toward infinity, with my good friend, Pygar (John Phillip Law), for wing support. Barbarella, on the other wing, is "a wonder...wonder woman." I'll bet Miss Fonda's last stitch of clothing on that thought. Double swear.

Und dann noch das über Dark Passage von Delmer Daves:

Sadly, or perhaps not, most condemned prisoners do not have a dame, a dude, and a plastic surgeon around to break their falls when they escape. But when Bogart busts out of the big house, San Quentin, the Good Samaritans start popping up like dandelions. His method of escape is to throw himself down a steep incline in a steel barrel. The cameraman rides tandem and becomes his eyes and point-of-view. Bogart hitches a ride with a nosy fellow I've seen before in the movies. He has deep-set eyes and a divot in his chin. Bogart quickly dispatches the mug to dreamland and ventures out into an uncertain landscape of creeps and coppers.

P.S.: Was man keinesfalls tun sollte, ist, einmal nachzusehen, was einer wie cooper1963 in den Messageboards so zu Nicht-Film-Themen zu sagen hat. Er könnte sich nur allzu leicht als rechter, Obama-hassender Vollidiot erweisen.
