Begegnung mit Markers Avatar.

Eines von Chris Markers Hauptwerken, Le fond de l'air est rouge, auf Englisch: Grin Without a Cat, ist jetzt, vorläufig exklusiv, im Wexner Store auf DVD zu haben, für  knapp 30 Dollar. Im dazugehörigen Blog findet sich ein zum Film gehöriges Zitat von Chris Marker über das Schicksal der 68er-Linken, aus dem Mai 2008.

In May, anyway, the final whistle came quickly: with the first casualty…. Left to their own devices amidst a reassured country, they became weakly and purposeless. Historical anarchy had died – heroically – in Spain. To refer to it now made no more sense than being a royalist, unless it became an ideological business, quite profitable at that. The Communist Party had missed every helping hand offered by History and started the long spin of a motorless airplane. French Maoism would remain a landmark in the history of teratology. The foolishness of morons is a plague, but statistically speaking we have to put up with it. What is fascinating is the foolishness of clever people and, in this particular case, some of the cleverest.

Aber es gibt eine Gelegenheit, seinen Avatar kennenzulernen. Und zwar am 16. Mai, ab 19 Uhr Ostküsten-Zeit USA (müsste dann, tja, ein Uhr nachts bei uns sein). Ort: Second Life. Dort wird Marker durch eine von ihm kuratierte/ihm gewidmete Ausstellung führen, über die Haden Guest, Leiter des Harvard Film Archive, das foglende schreibt [via hier]:

The Harvard Film Archive SECOND LIFE event with Chris Marker will take place on Saturday, May 16 at 7PM. Chris (through his avatar) will be leading a guided tour of his museum and answering questions from myself and a colleague (or rather our avatars) and also taking some from the audience (in the form of another avatar waiting at the conclusion of the tour). The show will also include various video pieces and film clips—single-channel versions of The Hollow Men, Silent Movie and Pictures at an Exhibition plus a number of clips and perhaps other slide shows, all projected in the actual HFA rather than the virtual screening room (although we might see something there).
